Google Play Movies On iOS Updated With Airplay Support

Play Movies on iOS just got a decent update with Apple TV users in mind. The app now sports playback on Apple TV thanks to Airplay support.

Thanks to the update, you can now play those movies and television shows on your third generation or higher Apple TV. You’ll need to be running software 7.0 or higher. This should appease those of you who have movie and show collections from Google and are desperately waiting for a native tvOS app in the mean time. Though, native apps only work on the fourth-generation Apple set-top box.

This is important because it shows that Google is taking other platforms seriously, and the move comes in the wake of rumors that Amazon is doing the very same thing. Airplay support is a great first step in the right direction for adding support to a rival platform. Of course, adding AirPlay support isn’t an indicator of tvOS native app ambitions. Though it should be noted, Like Play Movies on iOS, Google has released a Play Movies app for the Roku platform, so the company isn’t shy about putting its apps on competing platforms.

The app update also adds HD streaming to the app, along with cellular streaming. The app is newly-redesigned as well and offers users a chance to see recommendations straight from Google. It also adds the ability to search and wish list any movie that’s in the Play Store’s vast movie and television catalog. That way, you can easily find the movie or show on the Play Store.

If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it by going to the App Store. For those of you who have received the update, have you used the AirPlay feature yet? Let us know in the comments section below, or on social media by hitting us up on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter.
