Ford and Google may be announcing a partnership in the autonomous vehicles market at CES 2016. Forbes is reporting that sources indicate Ford would supply the technology giant with vehicles for their self-driving car project. This could mean Google is one-step closer to making their self-driving car a road reality. Forbes says “Automotive News” was the source of this information but they couldn’t provide a definitive green flag on this news. Partnering with an auto industry giant makes sense for Google, actually investing in building cars was probably never on their agenda.

“Google is trying to expand to other business fields – particularly because it has to demonstrate additional potential for growth. And Google is interested in developing the car as an additional source of information and data. Because we know the internet is a given at work and at home. The biggest blank spot in internet use today is the car,” Elmar Degenhart said.

Still, if the news holds true, Ford and Google will have plenty of government and legal snares to navigate in order to get these cars on the road. There’s a plethora of infrastructure challenges that would have to be met in order for these cars to take the road. So don’t expect the Foogle Car to hit the road near you any time soon.

What do you think of Google and Ford’s possible team up? Do you think another car manufacturer would have been a better choice? When do you think self-driving cars will actually be able to be used? How long will the legalese procedures take to get through? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
