The Apple accessory market is a highly competitive one with many different manufactures and many different tiers of quality. You can certainly find many Apple accessories for a reasonably affordable price, then you will find some that are priced sky high. Native Union falls somewhere in the middle offering high quality and well designed accessories that aren’t cheaply priced but won’t drive you to sell your first born either.
Native Union Apple Watch DOCK
The DOCK for Apple Watch has a very nice modern looking design to it that favors the artsy look. With clean lines and minimal look and feel the DOCK is just simply designed to look elegant. The base of the DOCK is a heavy piece of aluminum with a magnet tucked inside (for the cylinder), which adds even more heft to the overall package. The base is wrapped in a silicon material that gives it a nice amount of grip so it doesn’t slip and slide on your nightstand (it also protects your nightstand from scratches). The silicon material does pick up a bit of dust though.
Setting the DOCK up is dead simple: just slip your Apple Watch charger into the round cut out, and feed the cable through the groove stopping only when you have enough to come out the back end. Depending on how far your power source is — because you will need to plug the USB end of your charging cable into a power source — you could end up with a little or a lot of extra cable. Once you have the cable set in place you can place the DOCK on its side or on its bottom, either way works.
Overall this is a very nicely designed dock for the Apple Watch and the added versatility of using it in portrait or landscape is nice to have. It’s well built with premium materials and is priced at $59.99 on Amazon. The price point may not be for everyone but the materials used for its build are very nice. There is no cable included here.
Native Union iPhone DOCK
The DOCK for iPhone almost mirrors the Apple Watch DOCK in build, feel and looks (almost as if they’re meant to be paired). The base of the DOCK is heavy aluminum which gives it a nice heft, though this has no magnet. The DOCK is wrapped in a nice silicon material that prevents slipping from the nightstand and protects the finish on your nightstand as well. The lighter colored silicon doesn’t show dust and dirt as much as the darker color, which is a good thing.
Setting the DOCK up is nearly identical to setting up the Apple Watch DOCK. It’s just a matter of feeding your Lightning cable through the hole, seating the aluminum backrest and choosing the correct spacer. The DOCK comes with a few spacers so you can use it with a case on the iPhone or without a case. It’s nice to have those options available since users have varying tastes.
Overall this is also a nicely designed accessory and does an excellent job of holding your iPhone wherever you choose to place it. It is well built with premium materials and is priced at $49.99 on Amazon. The price might not be everyone’s cup of tea but again, nice design and premium build is what you’re paying for here.
Native Union Braided Lightning Cable 1.2m
Native Union’s braided lightning cables are some of the most well designed cables I’ve used in awhile. The look and feel give them an almost trendy designer quality, if you’re into that sort of thing. MFI certified, this cable does exactly what a Lightning cable is supposed to do but with style and really premium materials.
Overall this is an excellent cable and it is priced at $24.99 on Amazon. While there are many other Lightning cables on Amazon for cheaper prices, Native Union’s cables are really a step above a lot of the offerings out there today. But it is understandable if the price would be a deal breaker for some.
Native Union’s accessories aren’t for everyone, not everyone is prepared to spend the dollars on these types of products. But if you are one of those users who enjoy modern minimal design, premium materials and wouldn’t think twice about price. Native Union is one accessory maker you should check out.
