Singer/Songwriter Prince Dead At 57

Word has come out of Paisley Park, the suburban Minneapolis studio, that the artist known as Prince has died. TMZ was first to break the story of a death investigation at the studio, and recently confirmed that it was, in fact, Prince that has died. He was 57.

Prince’s death comes not even a week after he experienced a medical emergency of some kind that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in order to take him to the hospital. It was reported at the time that he was battling the flu. Ever the performer, Prince was returning from a concert in Atlanta when the plane was diverted, and reports say he did not seem to be suffering any ill effects during the show.  Even the day after his hospitalization, he appeared at a dance party at his Paisley Park studio just to show fans that he was alive and well. He urged fans to “wait a few days before wasting any prayers,” which seems particularly sad considering what has happened just a few days later.

Prince rose to fame in 1982 with the release of his album 1999. Over the years he won numerous awards for his music, was embroiled in a famous legal battle over the use of his name, and in 2007 delivered a memorable (for all of the right reasons) Super Bowl halftime show performance.
