Just ahead of the series season two release, Netflix has released a Marco Polo Season 2 featurette featuring the cast and crew of the show discussing some of what we can expect to see. In case you somehow managed to miss the first season, the show stars Lorenzo Richelmy as the famed explorer and Benedict Wong as Kublai Khan, ruler of the Mongol Empire during the 13th century. The series is based on Marco Polo’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th Century China, and the dark and tempestuous battle for the expanding Mongol empire.
While the first season really set up the series, the second season promises to explore more facets of the characters and their relationships. Using season one as a foundation, executive producer Patrick MacManus says that they are “going to leave the audience dumbstruck by where we’ve taken the show.” He goes on to say that they “didn’t craft the season to have a darker turn for the sake of taking it darker,” but rather “the emotional journey of these characters just demanded it.”
I know I’m looking forward to the second season, check out the featurette below.
In case you missed it, you can check out the season two trailer. Of course there’s spoilers, so if you haven’t already you should go watch the first season first.
