You know, these damn trailers always seem to drop when I’m asleep here in Chicago. It’s a shame Hollywood doesn’t work on my schedule, I should look into that. While I was sleeping, and most certainly while some of you were sleeping, Sony dropped the trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. I’ve been sitting here this morning playing this trailer over and over again, trying to digest the content. The film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is a fitting title for the film as we finally see the franchise being roped into the Marvel cinematic universe alongside Iron-Man, The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, and the others. Sony has held the rights to Spider-Man for a long time, and after some negotiations with Marvel Studios agreed to share the rights to the character finally bringing him back into Marvel’s arms.
First off, the trailer looks amazing! The action seems to be on point and the addition of Iron-Man to the cast is only going to give Spider-Man: Homecoming that much better footing. Tom Holland as Peter Parker seems like a great choice and Michael Keaton, oh man, yes! Of course, the key to the success of this film is its addition to the Marvel universe. I’m hoping that we’re not going to get too much of a re-hash of Spider-Man’s origin story in this, I think most everyone knows the story by now. Instead, I’d love to see them just pick it up and run with it, give us more action as the character development is common knowledge.
Right now I have high hopes for Spider-Man: Homecoming and am looking forward to the next trailer, but please, just don’t over-saturate this with a dragged out origin storyline. What do you think of the movie? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+.
