Patriot has announced two new USB Type-C drives today at CES 2017 — the Stellar-C Vertical (STC-Vi) and the Stellar-C Pass-Through (STC-Ti). Both drives will offer high-capacity, portable storage for users of devices with USB Type-C ports.

The Patriot STC-Vi drive features an upright design to minimize obstruction for use in Type-C smartphones and tablets, while also having a low-profile look for use in notebooks, MacBooks, and desktop PCs. It will be available in 64GB to 128GB sizes and have transfer rates of up to 225MB/s read and up to 25MB/s write speeds.

“With the STC-Vi, the new vertically positioned Type-C flash drive, we are giving the consumer something that will mesh well with Type-C mobile devices both in style and portability,” said Meng J. Choo, Patriot’s Flash Product Manager.

One issue with some newer USB Type-C devices is the lack of USB Type-C ports. Most devices currently only have one Type-C port which can cause issues when using an external drive. The Patriot STC-Ti’s dual-sided design allows users to access data on the portable drive while still having access to a USB Type-C port for charging. The STC-Ti will be available in 64GB to 128GB capacities with a transfer rate of up to 130MB/s read and 20MB/s write speed.

“Many Type-C capable devices only have one port,” said Choo. “The STC-Ti will enable consumers to have charging capabilities as well as data usage through the Type-C pass-through port.”

Both USB Type-C drives will be available in the second quarter of 2017. The STC-Vi will have an MSRP of $24.99 – $64.99USD and the STC-Ti will retail with an MSRP of $34.99 – $74.99USD.
