Qualcomm will bring more 4G/LTE to people with the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform

|

Qualcomm was in New Delhi today at a launch event to announce the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform, which is designed to bring more 4G and 4G LTE connectivity to entry level feature phones in a few regions to gain more data connectivity. A reason why Qualcomm came up with the 205 Mobile Platform was for OEM’s and ODM’s to service consumers who are unable to get a more high end and reliable handset and these regions include India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. On top of all that, Qualcomm 205 was designed to support consumers, micro-enterprises, and others to communicate using advanced LTE networks such as VoLTE and VoWiFi.

With Qualcomm bringing this platform to those regions, it’s helping small businesses and enterprises have fast, secure, and reliable access to process financial transactions. Plus increased battery life will help folks from having to consistently look for a power source and faster download speeds letting people stream videos and music.

The features of the Qualcomm 205 SoC include:

  • LTE Cat 4 modem with up to 150 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload;
  • Support for 4G, 3G and 2G networks;
  • Support for 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, ANT+, FM radio;
  • Dual Core CPU at 1.1 GHz;
  • Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU;
  • 3 megapixel rear camera,.3MP selfie camera
  • VGA display at 480p 60 frames per-second;
  • HD Video streaming;
  • Support for Linux based OS;
  • Support for dual SIMs;
  • Pin-compatible with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 210/212

Even Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, of Qualcomm Technologies had something to add about more people receiving 4G LTE on feature phones:

Qualcomm Technologies is committed to the migration of users and networks from 2G, 2.5G, and 3G to 4G. Feature phones are a lifeline in many emerging countries and the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform allows us to bring 4G connectivity and services to the masses with devices at price points never seen before.

The 205 Mobile Platform won’t be out until Q2 of this year, which is right around the corner, so folks in the regions named above should be seeing some feature phones with Qualcomm’s new tech inside.
