Carrie Fisher will not appear in 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX

Without a doubt, Carrie Fisher’s role as Princess/General Leia Organa has helped shape the Star Wars universe. Her passing has left many fans in mourning and soon after questions of her role in Star Wars: Episode IX started to surface. Her appearance in Episode VIII was confirmed as she had already finished filming her parts for the movie before her passing. But Episode IX remained uncertain and rumors flew that she could be added in through CGI. The studio did something similar when it brought back Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) in Rogue One with the family’s okay.

Now there’s confirmation that Fisher will not appear in Episode IX, despite her brother sort of confirming she may. Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy basically confirmed in an interview with Good Morning America that Fisher will not be part of the last Star Wars film.

We finished everything in XIII, and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie. And we’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer. Unfortunately, Carrie passed away, so by the time we were well underway with Episode IX in our thoughts, we had not written the script yet. But we regrouped, we started over again in January. So, sadly, Carrie will not be in IX.

While it’s a little sad not to have General Leia Organa in the last film, I am glad the respect for Fisher runs so deep. While I’m sure they could get her in via CGI, the fans just love her too much to accept anything other than the real deal. We’re excited to see her in Star Wars: The Last Jedi which looks amazing, there is one scene in the teaser trailer with General Organa in it. Check out the trailer one more time below.
