Untitled Deadpool animated series coming to FXX in 2018

The Merc with a Mouth has been making the most of his recent time in the limelight. From the nearly universally lauded Deadpool movie, to its nearly universally anticipated sequel nearly everything is coming up Deadpool. Add to that the news that the home of Archer is getting in on some Deadpool as well. FXX has ordered a 10 episode first season of a currently untitled adult oriented Deadpool animated series with Donald Glover on board as showrunner.

Maybe that was selling Donald Glover short. Along with Stephen Glover the duo will actually serve as showrunners, executive producers, and writers for the series, which is expected to debut in 2018. FXX certainly knows a thing or two about adult-themed animated comedies, having recently taken over as the home of Sterling Archer. The Brothers Glover should fit right in as well, as they teamed up on 2016’s Atlanta, an FX comedy series that was critically acclaimed, as well as winning awards not only for the show but for creator, executive producer, writer, and star Donald Glover.

Glover already has connections to Marvel as well as Star Wars and Disney Movies areas of the Disney empire. He has a currently un-named role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, he’ll wear the cape as a young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo Anthology movie, and he’ll voice Simba in the new “live action” Lion King. Along with all of that, the second season of Atlanta is expected in early 2018 as well.

The announcement was just made, so there’s not too much to go on for the Deadpool series, but given how FX, and subsequently FXX have pushed the envelope with Archer, I can only imagine what they’ll do with Deadpool. We’ll have to wait and see what they have in store.
