Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels wants to work with and reunite Pink Floyd

There are plenty of people on this earth who would love to reunite Pink Floyd. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see one of the greatest progressive rock bands get back together? Sadly, it would be hard to reunite Pink Floyd without Richard Wright, but there is one man who is trying, Darryl “D.M.C” McDaniels. You may know McDaniels better from the legendary rap group RUN D.M.C. That’s right, the man that once worked with another legendary rock band, Aerosmith, wants to reunite Pink Floyd. According to McDaniels, Pink Floyd had a big impact on him at a turning point in his life as he explained to The Guardian.

I want to make a record with them. When I was depressed and I wanted to kill myself, I used to listen to “Us and Them” off The Dark Side of the Moon every day. I’ll never forget the day I heard it: I was at the Portland, Oregon, Marriott hotel, and the maid had forgotten to turn off the radio. I sat on the end of my bed going “What the hell is this?” It was mesmerizing. Matter of fact I wanna make “Us and Them” over. I think I’m gonna go to the studio right now and lay a beat down so when Roger sees this interview he’ll be like: “Yeah, we’d love to make Us and Them with you.”

Holy crap! “Us and Them” in D.M.C. style? Now I can’t say that I would love it but I’d certainly be willing to listen to what he has in mind. RUN D.M.C.’s collaboration with Aerosmith on “Walk This Way” was a mega-hit back in the 80’s and is still my favorite version of that song. It will be interesting to see if either David Gilmour or Roger Waters actually see the interview and considers contacting McDaniels about working together. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Pink Floyd back together, I guess we can only hope.
