Android One is Google’s project to bring quality smartphones at affordable prices to the developing world. Android One already has a handful of available phones to choose from but they now have a new dual camera option. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is the latest phone to join the Android One family and it actually looks really slick. The phone comes with a back mounted fingerprint scanner as well as that aforementioned dual camera. Of course, it’s running the latest Android OS in its pure form.
Xiaomi is well known for skinning the OS on their Android phones with their own MIUI OS so this pure Android offering is a departure. Android One is Google’s baby so users on these devices will have a similar experience that Google provides with its own Pixel line of phones.
Google manages the design, development, marketing, and support of these devices while all manufacturing is carried out by partnering original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Android One smartphones run software close to stock Android, no user interface customisation is possible. Security and system updates are handled by Google, avoiding problems some earlier phones have had with lacking security updates. -Wikipedia
Here are just a few specs on the new Xiaomi Mi A1:
- Dual camera with 2x optical zoom
- Full Metal Unibody, 5.5” Display
- Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage
- Free unlimited storage on Google Photos
Xiaomi has been known to make some pretty nice hardware so it’s nice to see them collaborating with Google on this. It looks like there are now a total of eight Android One phone options for users to pick from and that’s also a plus for many.
