Just the other day we reported that the Motorola Android 8.0 Oreo update list had been released. One notable omission was the Moto G4 Plus. After catching wind of the internet uproar, Motorola has revised their Android 8.0 update list and a Moto G4 Plus Oreo upgrade will be coming as well.
The vocal dissatisfaction at the omission of the Moto G4 Plus from getting an Android 8.0 upgrade stemmed from the fact that when the phone was first released, marketing indicated that the device would be getting both an N (Nougat) and O (Oreo) update. As is the case with the internet, a Reddit thread was quick to point this fact out and provide links to the original marketing.
According to the update on the Motorola Blog, this was a marketing error but instead of leaving it at that, the company has decided to add the device to their Oreo upgrade list. The caveat being that since this was an unplanned upgrade, there is no ETA as Motorola needs to fit it into their upgrade schedule.
Since the time of posting this, we have learned of some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for moto g4 Plus. It’s our general practice for the moto g family to get one major OS upgrade per device, so it wasn’t originally planned for Android O. But it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading moto g4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit into our schedule, we’ll update our software upgrade page when we have more info.
What do you think about Motorola changing their minds and including the Moto G4 Plus in the Android 8.0 upgrade list? What do you think about the fact that the Moto G4 or Moto G4 Play aren’t on that list?
