Pacific Rim Uprising trailer drops, promises more Jaeger action

I’ll admit, I was super excited about Pacific Rim before it launched back in 2013. It wasn’t a perfect movie by any means, but it filled my quota for giant robots punching monsters in the face for a few years for sure. Mediocre reviews and a good-but-not-great box office return left the future of the franchise in doubt. Thankfully, Universal and Legendary Entertainment had some faith and gave the Jaegers another chance. The trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising dropped today, and it promises more Jaegers, bigger Kaiju, and John Boyega channeling Idris Elba. What more could we ask for? Check out the trailer below, and then stick around so we can talk about it a little more.

There’s plenty here to get excited about… John Boyega plays the son of Pacific Rim‘s Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who is leading a renewed charge against the monsters that are terrorizing the world. The monsters are bigger and badder, but thankfully it looks like the Jaegers are bigger and badder too. Gone are the constrictive pilot harnesses, we see pilots jumping and moving around in the cockpit while fighting. We even catch a glimpse of a 3-pilot Jaeger, it will be interesting to see how that works after all of the difficulty paring even two pilots in the first movie.

Rinko Kikuchi returns as Mako Mori, while Charlie Day and Burn Gorman reprise their roles as Doctors Newton Geiszler and Hermann Gottlieb respectively. Cailee Spaeny joins the cast as Amara, a 15 year old hacker and Jaeger pilot. Pacific Rim Uprising will be released in March, 2018.
