Lucasfilm has announced in a blog post that Jon Favreau will be not only writing but will also be the Executive Producer for an upcoming live-action Star Wars series. The new series doesn’t have a release date, but it will be released on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

As the blog post mentions, Favreau is no stranger to Disney or Star Wars having previously worked on a number of MCU titles including Iron Man and Avengers titles, as well as having involvement with The Jungle BookStar Wars: The Clone Wars, and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story and live-action version of The Lion King due out next year.

As one would expect, Favreau is excited to be producing and writing for the upcoming Star Wars series.

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
