More troubling rumours surrounding the closer of Telltale Games hit over the weekend. Initial reports indicated that the studio was keeping a skeleton staff of 25 on board to presumably finish up with the final two episodes of The Walking Dead: The Final Chapter.

UPDATE (09/25/2018 9 a.m. ET): Telltale Games has tweeted a statement stating that the series might be completed after all. Of course, the comments that follow are pretty divisive with some pleased with the decision while others are clamouring for Telltale to pay proper severance to those who were laid off.

ORIGINAL STORY:

According to USgamer and a tweet from Melissa Hutchison, the voice of Clementine and other Telltale Games characters, indicate that tomorrow’s release of Episode 2, “Suffer the Children,” will be the last. That leaves two unfinished episodes, and as a result, the final conclusion of the series in limbo. The remaining staff is now reported to be fulfilling obligations to Netflix’s Minecraft: Story Mode adaptation.

If true, this would leave many gamers who purchased the game in order to get all four final episodes with half a game and an unresolved storyline. Telltale Games is expected to unveil their final roadmaps in the coming weeks, so there is hope yet that the final two episodes, slated to be released before the end of the year, will still be released before the studio closes up shop. If not, you can bet there will be more legal troubles from angered gamers should the company fail to live up to expectations for the series.

Melissa Hutchison also tweeted about the closure, her experience and love for Telltale Games, and thanking fans for supporting the multiple series she worked on while employed at Telltale.
