The Nintendo Switch comes with two controllers and a dock. However, there are many games which offer up four or more players to game together at once. Design

The HyperX ChargePlay Quad for the Nintendo Switch is dome-shaped in design. With a diameter of just over four-and-a-half inches, it has a height of just under two-and-a-quarter. The HyperX logo is centered in the middle of the top of the dome surrounded by four lights.

Evenly spaced around the dome are four Joy-Con width slots. Centered between two of these is the HyperX logo. As for the slots, the Joy-Con controllers slide in using the rail that attaches to the Nintendo Switch. On the back side of the charger, opposite the HyperX logo, is the Micro-USB port.

Towards the bottom of the ChargePlay Quad, it looks vented around the edges, angling in towards the base. Flipping it over, the base itself has two rubber strips around the outer edge for added grip.

Overall, the ChargePlay Quad has a pretty slick look to it, and looks right at home beside the Nintendo Switch when it’s filled, or partially filled, with Joy-Con controllers.

Ease of Use

The HyperX ChargePlay Quad is super easy to use. Simply plug the ChargePlay Quad into one of the USB-A ports on the Nintendo Switch dock and the other end into the Micro-USB port on the ChargePlay Quad.

To charge your Joy-Con controllers, insert them into one of the four available slots. The Joy-Con slides easily into the slot and is held securely in place by the Joy-Con rails while it charges.

Performance

As far as performance and charging goes, when a Joy-Con is placed in a slot, the corresponding light blinks to indicate it is charging. Once the Joy-Con is fully charged, the light remains solid. If there isn’t a Joy-Con in a slot, the light remains off.

While we didn’t time the actual amount of time it takes to charge the Joy-Con controllers with the ChargePlay Quad, for our use — which can get quite heavy on the weekends — we never had to worry about not having enough charged Joy-Cons to use. Doubling as a stand, you can leave your Joy-Cons in the charger whenever they’re not being used to keep them charged and ready for your next session.

Price/Value

The HyperX ChargePlay Quad has an MSRP of US$29.99. The ChargePlay Quad is a great value for the price if you have more than two Joy-Con controllers for your Nintendo Switch.

Wrap-up

The HyperX ChargePlay Quad is an affordable, slick looking quad port charger and stand for your Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers. A no-brainer if you have more than two Joy-Con controllers in your household, it easily earns a Top Pick of 2019 Award here at Techaeris.
