Over a year ago, Microsoft and Amazon announced that Cortana and Alexa, their respective voice assistants, would play nice on Windows 10 devices. While Cortana is baked into Windows 10, Alexa requires running an app and, until now, clicking on it to invoke it. Thanks to a recent update, Amazon’s digital assistant is now hands-free on a PC!
Alexa on your PC is now hands-free. Just ask and Alexa will respond, even when the app is running in the background or minimized.

While you still need to have the app running in the background, you won’t need to focus it and activate it with your mouse anymore. That being said, you can still toggle between push-to-talk and hands-free at your convenience if you like the old way of doing things better.
While Cortana can do many of the same things as Amazon’s digital assistant, the latter is more widespread and has more skills that can help you through your day.
With Alexa on your PC, you can simplify your life and use your voice to get more done. Just ask Alexa to check your calendar, create lists, play music, answer questions, read the news and more, even when the app is running in the background or minimized. Alexa on your PC makes it easy to control your smart home from anywhere just by using your voice. Whether you’re at home or on the go, Alexa is designed to make your life easier.
