Back at CES 2019, we found out that Samsung would be supporting the Apple TV app as well as Apple AirPlay 2. This announcement was pretty exciting and other OEMs also made the same announcement. But today, Samsung is announcing they are the first to start rolling out support for the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2.

All 2019 Samsung Smart TVs and only select 2018 TV models will receive a firmware update that will add support for both. The Apple TV app will be available in more than 100 countries and AirPlay 2 support will be offered in 176 countries. So now, owners of these TVs can enjoy Apple TV channels as well as their iTunes Movies purchases on their Samsung TVs.

“For the last decade, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers on our Smart TV platform,” said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TV app on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available today.”

The app will be fully integrated into the Samsung Smart TV platform and users need only to select the icon to access all of their iTunes movies and TV show purchases plus browse 100,000 other movies and TV shows for rent or purchase. You will also be able to subscribe to any channels offered on the Apple service and you will also be able to get 4K HDR content.

The Apple TV app will work seamlessly with Samsung’s Smart TV Services, such as Universal Guide, Bixby and Search, to create a consistent experience across Samsung’s platform.
