Apple refreshes the iPod Touch after four years

, , ,

In the world of Apple news, rumor around the interwebs is that the company has finally released the next generation iPod Touch. It’s been about four years since the last iPod Touch was released, so users should be jazzed about it. Users will also be stoked about the price point and storage options coming with the new model.

The 7th generation iPod Touch features support for Group FaceTime and augmented reality (AR) using Apple’s A10 Fusion chip that the iPhone 7 used in 2016. The screen size is staying at 4” with a Retina display. It also features an 8MP rear camera with 1080p @30fps video recording or slo-mo videos at 120fps. The front camera is 1.2MP, which is nothing new, but still plenty enough for a few video chats. The unit will come in Space Gray, Gold, Silver, Pink, Blue, and Product Red.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Product Marketing also had this to say about the newest iPod Touch.

“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $199. The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”

These new models come in three different storage sizes starting out at 32GB. Next is 128GB and topping out at 256GB. Prices will vary depending on which model you want, but the device will start at US$199 for the 32GB model, US$299 for 128GB, and US$399 for the 256GB model. You are able to order the latest iPod Touch starting today.

Of course, for the low starting price of US$199 and a spec bump from the 6th generation back in 2015, this new iPod Touch could be a nice gift for a younger child instead of getting them a smartphone. Plus, it’ll stay up to date with Apple for getting the latest iOS updates.

The new iPod Touch comes in a variety of colours.
