Call records and social security numbers are among the bits of customer data accessed by parties “outside” of AT&T. In a California regulatory filing, the telecom giant confirmed the incidents took place between April 9 thru the 21st. AT&T would not say how many customers were affected by the breach but ITworld says California law requires a regulatory filing if more than 500 persons were affected.

New email service ProtonMail, promises to be the most secure email service you’ve ever used. Developed by employees Andy Yen, Jason Stockman and Wei Sun from CERN and MIT this certainly looks to be a promising and elegant looking email service.
Corporate security consultant Nitesh Dhanjani appeared at the Black Hat Asia security conference to report that Tesla’s cars can indeed by hacked. The vehicles can be located and unlocked by cracking a six character password using already known hacking techniques. According to The Hacker News, Dhanjani says there are no major vulnerabilities in the cars major core systems but rather the problem lies somewhere else.
Ars Technica is reporting that hundreds of linux open source packages could be affected by a new Crypto Bug even going as far as to say. “This GnuTLS bug is worse than the big Apple “goto fail” bug patched last week”. Anyone can add new listings to Google maps and, usually, this is a good thing™. Unfortunately spammers have discovered this, and some categories (such as locksmiths) are overrun with fake listings. There’s a new twist now that may have very serious consequences: anyone can add government agencies to Google Maps with almost no spam filtering on Google’s part. One hacker added fake entries for the FBI and Secret Service with phone numbers under his control. If you called one of those fake numbers you were automatically rerouted to the right number, but the hacker in the middle was recording your call.
University of Liverpool scientists have discovered they can produce a Wi-Fi virus that can move through dense wireless (unprotected) networks and infect multiple systems. The team designed a virus called Chameleon and found that it was able to spread rapidly from one network to another. The virus was also able to identify weak networks, those without encryption or passwords. The scientists found that Chameleon had human airborne virus qualities in its ability to infect one wireless network after another, much like the flu bug in humans. The closer the networks are to each the other the more likely the virus will spread through them.
Israeli security startup, SlickLogin had been scooped up by Google in what seems like a field day of acquisition (s) for the search giant. SlickLogin has developed technology using your smartphone and high-frequency sounds to allow you to login to web services such as email and social sites. Google grabbed these guys fairly quickly into their journey so they must have something worth looking at. Founders Or Zelig, Eran Galili and Ori Kabeli began this project last August 2013, an infant company and idea indeed.
