If you’re a graphic designer and use Adobe Illustrator you know what the cost is for using Adobe’s graphics editor. Vectr is trying to ease some of that pain from your pocket book with its own free cross-platform graphics editor. Vectr has been in beta but is now being prepared for unleashing on the general public. We haven’t used it ourselves but the program seems to do what Illustrator does and the user interface is pretty damn slick.
Vectr is a free collaborative vector graphics editor, for both web & desktop. Our mission is to help everyone create vector graphic designs easily and intuitively, using its simple yet powerful web and desktop cross-platform tool. For three years now we’ve been working hard building Vectr from scratch. Vectr is eventually envisioned to become one graphic design app for all— from amateurs and bloggers to professional designers — powerful and yet free for anyone to make their designs a reality!
The company wants to provide Google-Docs style collaboration, providing user the ability to share graphics files in real-time and mark-up and edit together. The platform will also have an integrated marketplace where you can sell your designs and buy other users designs as well. Vectr is also going to integrate Slack and WordPress into the platform, allowing users to post editable graphic projects directly on their websites or in Slack.
There’s a whole list of neat features in Vectr you can head over to their website or the Medium post to check out more about the platform and when features are expected to be integrated. Or you can hit the third link to just download it and try it for yourself.
