I must admit, I was not a fan of wood on phones. Call me old fashioned but I like my tech uni-formally wrapped in some man-made material. I never understood the whole wood-backing craze…
I was given the opportunity to review the Evutec Wood S case for iPhone 5/5S and I must say I’m very impressed. The iPhone exclusive case is both light weight and protective with its DuPont Kevlar (not bulletproof) material despite its fragile appearance. I think most mobile phone users are used to associating ‘protection’ with that thick, plastic-like coating most phone casings offer but the Wood S combines protection and style beautifully all while reducing its carbon footprint.
This thin, snap case gives a polished hardwood floor look with an air of sophistication. The Wood S wraps around the exterior of the phone without any hindrance to the screen or bezel. All ports, speakers and buttons are fully accessible via roomy, precise cutouts even for those with big fingers. Very easy to remove (i.e. I didn’t break a nail trying to pry this off my phone) and IT LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE REAL WOOD due to its layers of veneer interspersed with the Kevlar fibers.
I give this a 10 out of 10 because it changed my complete outlook on wood casing for my tech. It’s everything I want in a case; protection, slim design, easy removal and dockable. Although the Wood S isn’t touted as a protection case, I did drop it (a back facing drop) and my phone made it out unscathed. I often forgot I had the case on at all until someone noticed or asked me about it. I would recommend anyone who is not a believer of ‘thin = protection’ or wood cases in general try this case out.
Does anyone own a Wood S? If so what do you like/despise about it? Have it out in the comments and thanks for reading.
