On July 1st, Sony went live with free games available to members of Playstation Plus for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita announced via their blog. This month’s collection features some solid multiplayer fun and kicks off with Towerfall: Ascension and Strider on PS4 while PS3 gets an awesome game from previous gen with Dead Space 3. Vita gets Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
Towerfall: Ascension -PS4
Towerfall plays a lot like the old “Gauntlet” arcade game in that it’s best done in a group and in close proximity to each other. So that way, when your buddy snags the good upgrades and doesn’t pull his/her weight you can then punch them or kick their controller out of their hands, whichever works. Players compete for loot and glory while fighting off waves of bad guys and evil archers. “Ascension” has a 1-2 player co-op Quest mode as well so you can still have a good time even without a full crew.
Strider (2014) – PS4
If you remember the late 80’s and early 90’s arcade scene you might recognize Strider Hiryu. A side platformer featuring the flipping futuristic hero was a modest hit for Capcom back in the day. This sleek update features our hero and his Cypher weapon. The PS4 is a great vehicle for this game to demonstrate the sleek and graceful actions of the hero as he faces off against Gradmaster Meio (which fans should remember from the original Strider game). The game is now a free roaming explorer style game where you can move about freely in the dystopian world.
Dead Space 3 – PS3
For those brave enough to endure the shock and horror of Dead Space’s deafening isolation and terror, you get to return in Dead Space 3 with Clarke and Carter as they seek to end the Necromorphs (who give me SOLID nightmares, I assure you). Definitely a high mark with critics, this is a great 3rd person shooter to check out.
Vessel – PS3
If you’re looking for a good puzzle in your life, you might enjoy grabbing Vessel. The game centers around an inventor who creates a liquid capable of transforming into various forms to assist the player as they solve puzzles and fix problems created by the wild liquid out in the world. The game has better than average physics and liquid mechanics and will no doubt give you a challenge as you progress through.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes – Vita
If you’ve never played a LEGO game, you’re probably missing out on some of the most fun and sometimes challenging game play out there. This month’s free Vita game lets you play as the caped crusader and tons of other characters fighting against an under siege Gotham. With over 70 characters in all to play with and a nice big open world, there are hours of game play to build on…get it, build…LEGO
So hop on your PlayStation 3, Playstation 4, or Vita and hit up the newly updated Playstation Store HERE and grab em up. Also, as a perk of being a Plus member, you might want to check out what new discounts are available on the Playstation Store.
Sidenote: Unlike months past, all of the free games come out on the first of the month instead of throughout.
