The world around you is not what it seems. That’s the introduction to Ingress, the Alternate Reality Game (ARG) from Google’s Niantic Labs. Available on Android since November of 2012, this popular ARG is now officially available on iOS. Join your Android brethren in a fight for the hearts and minds of humanity!
The description of the game (from Google Play)
Ingress transforms the real world into the landscape for a global game of mystery, intrigue, and competition. Our future is at stake. You must choose a side. A mysterious energy has been unearthed by a team of scientists in Europe. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it or it will control us. “The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us. “The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity. Install Ingress and transform your world. The World is the Game Move through the real world using your Android device and the Ingress app to discover and tap sources of this mysterious energy. Acquire objects to aid in your quest, deploy tech to capture territory, and ally with other players to advance the cause of the Enlightened or the Resistance. Strategy The struggle is being played out globally. Track the progress of players around the world, plan your next steps, and communicate with others using an Intelligence map.
Several of us at Techaeris have played more than our fair share of Ingress. The game itself is a great way to get out and around in your community, and learn/see things that you might normally miss. The best part about Ingress though is definitely the community that has sprung up around the game. There are definitely some hard-core players and the occasional jerk on both sides, but overall there are some really great people playing Ingress. I’ve made friends and met hundreds of people from around the country. Plenty of players have met people from around the world. It’s truly a game that will bring people together. So iPhone users, fire up Ingress, pick the Resistance (we’re the good guys, after all 😀 ) and fight to save humanity from Shaper influence! So, iPhone users, are you excited to see what all of the fuss has been about? Android users, what do you think about adding iOS to the mix?
