Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Coming In 2015

|

While making Pulp Fiction, Quentin Tarantino and his muse Uma Thurman came up with a brilliant concept for a film while goofing off on set.  That idea became the magnum opus that is Kill Bill.

Originally a 4 hour plus epic,  the studio execs finally bent Quentin to their will and forced the film to be split into what became Kill Bill Vol 1 and Vol 2 that came out in 2003 and 2004. Last week at Comicon in San Diego,  Tarantino mentioned that there will be a possible future in which we could see the movie as it was intended to be seen with Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. You’re probably gonna have to take the day off for this one.

The film of course will be reedited into one film instead of two but there will be an additional 30 minute anime film cut into it as well.  Quentin goes on:

What’s going on with that is originally back when Kill Bill was going to be one movie, I wrote an even longer anime sequence. So you see in the movie [O-Ren] kill her boss but then there was that long hair guy… The big sequence was her fighting that guy. I.G. [The Japanese Anime Studio] who did Ghost in the Shell said we can’t do that and finish it in time for your thing. And [plus] you can’t have a thirty-minute piece in your movie. I said okay. It was my favorite part but it was the part you could drop. So we dropped it and then later when I.G. heard we were talking about doing Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair — they still had the script so without even being commissioned, they just did it and paid for it themselves. It’s really terrific. Anyway, The Weinstein Company and myself were talking about actually coming out with it sometime, not before the year is out, but within the next year with limited theatrical engagement as well.

So add Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair to the already massive list of 2015 movies coming out and you have what could be a movie lover’s paradise.  We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for more news about this in the future. In all honesty, he’s [Tarantino] has been talking about doing a Kill Bill full length for years now with little fruition so I’d say that while this seems more believable than usual, I wouldn’t hold any breathing over it.

Meanwhile, Quentin is also talking about diving into science fiction after his successes with World War II and Inglorious Basterds and Westerns with Django Unchained. Maybe one day, we will finally get a Kill Bill Vol 3.

If you’re not familiar with Kill Bill, here’s the original trailer for Vol 1.
