Welcome to Week 2 of Appetizers! This regular installment of delicious mobile applications will showcase some of the staff’s favorites each week.

Matter – iOS

Matter is a fun photography app that allows you to place 3D objects into a photo and manipulate it to look as if it was always there. There is no real need for this app, it’s just fun and neat to play with. In the hands of someone very creative, it could produce some nice pieces of art. Matter is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad for $1.99.

PasswdSafe – Android

To be honest, I’m surprised PasswdSafe doesn’t have more than 50,000-100,000 downloads. This free app is a lifesafer when having to deal with multiple passwords on a daily basis. Given the media focus lately on hacked websites, databases, and accounts, and password best practices of using different passwords for different websites, it can be difficult to remember a unique password for each site you have a login for. The app is simple enough to use and allows you to set folders, create random passwords based on various criteria, set a password expiration, and more. When coupled with PasswdSafe Sync for backing up your password file to the cloud (I use Google Drive), you’ll never have to worry about forgetting a password again.

Dungeon Village – Android

Old faithful Kairosoft games. When I don’t have anything new/exciting to play on my phone, I’ll always know that Kairosoft games will be there for me. Dungeon Village is one of my favorites, and is a bit more interactive than some of the others.

Cabinet – Android

You won’t be using a file manager 24/7, why should you need to go through settings to configure different options for something you don’t constantly use? Cabinet is designed to just work right off the bat with basically no configuration. Cabinet is user friendly and has UI that will please the eye.

Fun Run – Android & iOS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INs5HSPhTE4

Fun Run is one of the rare mobile games that I’ll sink a lot of my own time into. The multiplayer is a total blast, allowing you to gather up to three other friends together or join a group of random players to hack, slash, and bear trap your way to the finish line. Fun Run is the perfect combination of addictive mayhem and fast-paced fun for everyone!
