If you follow Google with any interest, especially their Android and Chrome products, you know who Sundar Pichai is. Pichai started working for Google back in 2004 initially on the Chrome and Chrome OS team. He’s worked with Google Drive and helped both the Gmail and Google Maps teams. In 2013 Larry Page broadened Pichai’s role to include Android and now Page has yet again given the 42 year old Pichai a larger slice of the responsibility of Gooogle overall. In addition to Chrome and Android Pichai will now oversee Google+ social, ads, maps, commerce, research, infrastructure, and search. That’s quiet the workload and a huge increase in trust from Larry Page. If you noticed in the list above he’s also in charge of search, that’s pretty huge considering that’s Google’s bread and butter.
In a memo obtained by re/code, Page said to employees that Pichai’s appointment over these projects would free up his time to concentrate on larger scope projects. With the amount of smaller companies Google keeps scooping up and the different industries they’ve peppered themselves into it’s not surprising that Page wants to concentrate on working them into a viable product. As for Pichai, he seems to be an even keel cool headed VP and should do well with the added responsibility, he comes across as confident, well spoken and just all around a nice guy. You can check out the video below to see what I’m talking about. What do you think of Pichai’s added roles and how do you think he’ll do?
