If you’ve been around for a few years like me, you’ll remember the fairly popular TV series from the 1970s – The Six Million Dollar Man. According to Deadline, Mark Wahlberg is teaming up once again with Peter Berg to bring The Six Million Dollar Man to the big screen. Apparently six million dollars is chump change these days, so the film version adjusted for inflation and we’ll be getting The Six Billion Dollar Man instead.
The ’70s TV series, which followed the TV movie of the same name, featured Lee Majors as Col. Steve Austin, a test-pilot who nearly died in a crash. The government, in its infinite wisdom, decided to rebuild Col. Austin and outfitted him with cybernetic limbs – both legs, an arm, and a bionic eye – which gave him superhuman strength and speed. Col. Austin was then placed in the employ of the government as a secret agent and undertook mission after mission during the show’s 4 year, 100 episode run. The series also spawned a number of games, toys, and comics, as well as The Bionic Woman spin-off series.
The movie will be directed by Peter Berg, and obviously star Mark Wahlberg as Col. Steve Austin. The two previously worked together in Lone Survivor. It will be produced by The Weinstein Co. under Dimension Films and is slated for a 2016 release date.
And for a trip down memory lane… here’s The Six Million Dollar Man theme. I miss the 70s and 80s!
