Superman Origin Story Krypton Coming To Syfy

Syfy is reportedly working on developing a Superman origin story titled Kyrpton. The show will follow in the similar footsteps of Superman’s DC caped counterpart Batman, and his own origin story currently airing on Fox, Gotham, but on a planet even more villainous and seedy than Earth.

As detailed by The Hollywood ReporterKrypton will tell the tale of what happened to Superman’s family and the disgraced House of El, prior to the Man of Steel coming to Earth and causing billions of dollars worth of property damage in the 2013 Zach Snyder film. The plot will follow Superman’s grandfather attempting to turn the mess of a planet that is Krypton into a working society that ultimate gave way to The Last Son of Krypton.

Krypton will be produced by Warner Horizons Television as well as DC Comics, and written by Ian Goldberg known for Once Upon a Time, and FlashForward. Goldberg with also be pulling double duty as an executive producer alongside the man who wrote the screenplay for Man of Steel, David Goyer.

Their rival Marvel may still rule the day in cinemas for now, but DC is making a real push to be king of the comic book TV adaptations. The already established Arrow is soaring high, and lending its popularity to CW’s other adaptation The Flash, which has received almost nothing but praise as it comes into its mid-season finale tonight. Gotham, as mentioned earlier, has been less critically acclaimed than the other two, but it’s far from terrible, and Constantine has been solid, if not great. On top of these already established shows, they are also in the works to bring Supergirl to CBS, and iZombie to the CW.

Compare all these to Marvel’s lone offering –  Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and DC is starting to run away with it, which could happen even more if Krypton turns out to be a success.
