Taylor Swift Social Media Accounts Hit By Lizard Squad

The hacking group known as Lizard Squad is back in the news, this time allegedly targeting pop princess Taylor Swift. Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for the Xbox and Playstation network outage which left millions of gamers in the dark. This time their hacks were aimed at Swift’s Twitter and Instagram accounts. The hackers briefly took over both accounts and began sending messages, including threatening to post nude photos of Swift on the Internet.

One of Swift’s friends noticed the unusual activity on her Twitter and Instagram pages and immediately notified Swift. Swift contacted both Twitter and Instagram and both companies were pretty quick to take control of both accounts back from the hackers.

Swift has 71 million followers combined on her Instagram and Twitter accounts prompting the hackers to ask her fans to follow their own social media pages. It’s unclear why Lizard Squad targeted Ms. Swift but it’s a good reminder to be sure you’re using strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Twitter does offer authentication via texts so you know if someone is trying to log into your account. What do you think of Taylor’s unfortunate hack? Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
