The upcoming Deadpool movie continues to take shape. Gina Carano has signed on to play Angel Dust – a member of The Morlocks who will be joining Wade Wilson on the big screen next year. Along with the appearance of Angel Dust played by Carano, there will also be another surprise mutant playing a part in Deadpool.
Peter Rasputin, aka Colossus, will be joining Gina Carano, T.J. Miller and Ryan Reynolds in the movie. Who will be playing the Russian mutant hasn’t been announced, but in the past the part has been played by Daniel Cudmore. To date, Colossus has appeared in four other X-Men movies including X-Men, X2: X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Luckily for the X-Men movie timeline, Colossus didn’t appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so it won’t be too much of a stretch to envision him in a movie with Deadpool who (unfortunately) appeared in the origin story of Wolverine.
In the comics, Wade Wilson has had a love/hate relationship with the X-Men, including the stone-faced Colossus, so their interactions on screen are bound to be good ones. It is unknown at this time what, if any, other X-Men will be appearing in the film, but if Fox has any hopes to start their own consistent cinematic universe there could be quite a few.
It’s still not known if Gina Carano’s part is the same that Taylor Schilling, Morena Baccarin, and others were vying for, or just another female role in the film. The character she will be playing, Angel Dust, is a member of a group of mutants located under the streets of Chicago called The Morlocks. Her mutant power is the ability to “chemically supercharge her adrenaline levels” in order to generate super strength. If Gina Carano’s time on American Gladiators is any indication, she’ll do just fine playing the role.
As a former mixed martial artist and kickboxer, Carano is no stranger to action movies; her more recent roles include Fast & Furious 6, Haywire, and Blood and Bone. She is also set to star in Bus 657, and Kickboxer: Vengeance, both of which are set to release this year.
The Deadpool movie releases on February 12, 2016 and is directed by Tim Miller. It stars – as we now know – Ryan Reynolds, Gina Carano, and T.J. Miller.
