Apple Hires Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe

|

In a shock move announced yesterday, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe is leaving the station after 11 years. There has been disappointment by lots of music fans, but the biggest news may be where he is making his move to. Zane will be moving to the US and taking up a new position at Apple.

Zane thanked “everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship” and announced the last of his new music show will air on the 5th of March. We are yet to find out what position he will be taking at Apple. It may be to join the already established iTunes team, or to be involved with Apple’s expected upcoming push into streaming services with Beats Music.

Streaming Service?

zane apple beatsWhatever position he is filling at Apple it is sure to pull on his eye for broad ranging emerging talent. Zane has won the Radio Academy Award for Best Music Broadcaster in 2010, 2011 and 2014 along with numerous NME awards and recognitions. Zane also has writing and production credits to his name including albums from the likes of Example, Tinie Tempah and Chase and Status.

He also has built close personal relationships with some of the biggest names. Zane Lowe has managed to sit down with huge names such as Kanye West, Eminem, Chris Martin, and Jay Z for frank and honest interviews. So Apple will have not only a skilled talent spotter, but someone with many stars on speed dial.

Zane will feel right at home as Apple itself has close ties with artists from all warps of life, not to mention ‘rap’s first billionaire’ Dr. Dre who joined along with the Beats Music purchase. The rumoured release of Beats Music looks set to be heavily embedded into upcoming versions of iOS along with being developed for Android!

Whatever he will be delving into, we wish him all the best and can’t wait to see his push in iTunes or Beats Music.
