Nintendo announced during its Direct today that alongside Yoshi’s Woolly World, they will also be releasing a special edition Yarn Yoshi amiibo. Unlike the rest of the amiibo line, this will not be made of hard materials, but instead be made – appropriately enough – of soft yarn. Instead of standing up like other amiibo, this yarn Yoshi appears to have his NFC chip where the sun doesn’t often shine, and is tapped on the Wii U GamePad by having him sit down.
Aside from just looking unspeakably adorable, the Yarn Yoshi amiibo will also grant you a second Yoshi to play with in-game. As Bill Trinen kind of depressingly put it, you will never have to feel like you are playing alone with your new amiibo friend. The second Yoshi will act as your Player 2, and allows you to throw it at enemies or other obstacles in your way – as you would with a real friend handling the Player 2 duties.
Also announced was a Fall release window for Yoshi’s Woolly World itself. That’s still nothing concrete by any means, but it’s a release window, which is better than we’ve had up until this point. The Yarn Yoshi amiibo will launch alongside the game and come in three different colors – green, pink, and light blue.
