According to sources the Apple iPhone 6s, if that is what is going to be called, just might be thicker than the iPhone 6. Seems a little off as smartphones are racing to get thinner and thinner in an attempt to fend off the competition. You might think Apple’s motivation for thickening the iPhone is #bendgate but sources say Apple’s motivation is the addition of Force Touch in the iPhone 6s. It’s expected that the new iPhone will be around 0.2mm thicker than the current models and that’s a good thing – there is such a thing as being too thin.
Until battery technology catches up going any thinner just doesn’t make sense. While I can get through the day with my iPhone 6 Plus, making it thinner would probably kill that. On top of that the the slick aluminum body and curved edges along with the thin profile make it hard to hold on to a naked iPhone, the thing is just slippery. Adding another 0.2mm might not be a bad thing at all and depending on the design it just might give the user a better handle on a naked iPhone. It will be interesting to see how they use Force Touch on the new phone and how it integrates with other apps.
