Marvel Unveils New Civil War and Doctor Strange Video At D23 Expo 2015

While the Internet has certainly been abuzz with the upcoming Captain America: Civil War — we even got into the hype just a bit — Marvel pulled back the curtain a wee bit for another of its phase 3 movies, Doctor Strange. The movie, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will follow in the footsteps of Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man and continue pushing the envelope in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As Marvel head Kevin Feige put it:

“The goal of these films is always to continue to expand what a comic book film is, what a Marvel Cinematic Universe film is. And starting a couple years ago with Guardians of the Galaxy, this year with Ant-Man, next year with Doctor Strange, continuing to push the boundaries of that cinematic universe.”

Marvel will do this by introducing viewers to a magical realm in the MCU. Ant-Man touched upon multiple realms just a tiny bit by going into the quantum realm, but it appears that Doctor Strange will push that even further.

“I’m very excited to be taking on Doctor Strange for Marvel. He’s an extraordinary character and brings in a whole other dimension… hmmm… MULTIPLE dimensions to the Marvel universe,” Feige told D23 Expo audience members.

As if that weren’t enough, Feige also gave D23 attendees its first view of Captain America: Civil War in its first trailer. Yes, it’s real this time, no we don’t have it for you yet. What we do have though is a brief description of what’s happening.

The trailer shows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) telling Captain Rogers (Chris Evans), “Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.” He goes on to say, “We have no boundaries, we’re no better than the bad guys,” eventually leading to the heroes taking opposite sides.

As if that weren’t enough, the trailer also features bits of the big Avengers versus Crossbones scene that kicks off the whole super hero registration movement. Captain America, Falcon and Black Widow hunt Crossbones and he drops a Bucky-bomb on Cap. “He remembered you, you know — your pal, your buddy, your Bucky,” he says.

Next we jump to the cutscene following the Ant-Man credits, where **SPOILERS** Cap and Falcon find Bucky trapped in a factory somewhere. Another scene shows Captain America and Bucky fighting side-by-side. Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther shows up in his civilian clothing but extends the claws of his costume and the trailer ends with a bit of humor. Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and Captain America meet up with Lang being a little bit star-struck. “I know you know a lot of super people, so thinks for thanking of me! Uh… thanks for thinking of me,” Lang tells Rogers.

While we don’t have the trailer for you yet, and believe us, we’ll drop it when we get it, we do have Feige’s chat with D23 attendees complete with Anthony Mackie, Chris Evans and a video from Benedict Cumberbatch. We should note that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was also absent from the trailer, but I assume we’ll see him at a later date.
