Microsoft’s Xbox Preview Program was rolled out to allow users and gamers to sign up to test out new features on the Xbox One before they are released to the general public. It also allows Microsoft to test new features and fix bugs before the general release of their Xbox One updates. Unfortunately, the only way to get into the program is if you know somebody already in it and they send you an Xbox Preview Program invite.
With the recent announcement of the Xbox One Backward Compatibility Beta which started June 15 for Xbox preview members and will be releasing in November for everyone else, forums and websites were flooded with requests for invites to the program. Heck, we even invited quite a few people here through MOARGeek as this was no doubt a feature that gamers were really excited about.
Well the day has come where it seems that Microsoft has put the brakes on newcomers to the Preview Program and have posted in the forums that they will be slowing down the acceptance rate due to the overwhelming response from fans.
Due to a tremendous response from our fans, the Xbox Preview program has reached a near capacity level. With that in mind, we are slowing the number of new people we are accepting to optimize for testing. We are thankful for the amount of interest we’ve received to date and look forward to sharing more details on preview opportunities soon.
With that said, those that are in the Xbox Preview Program – congratulations! It looks like you’re now part of an “elite” group who will continue to receive Xbox One updates before the general public for testing. The next major update that a lot of gamers and users are looking forward to of course is the anticipated Xbox One dashboard refresh which is set to tie in more Windows 10 functionality with the gaming console.
What do you think about Microsoft’s decision to slow down on invitation approvals for the Xbox Preview program? Are you one of the lucky ones who got in? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook!
