Three months ahead of the return of The X-Files on Fox, and a day after a promo trailer was released, the network has released an official trailer to the upcoming six-episode event series.
We’ll skip the promo teaser as it contains everything in this official trailer – but wow… the show has definitely jumped into 2015, with themes of government spying and terrorist threats taking the forefront. Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are enlisted to help stop an attack by a multi-national group of elites using – you guessed it – alien technology that the government has been hiding for the past 70 years.
The upcoming event series will encompass a mixture of stand-alone episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology, and in the opening episode, Mulder and Scully investigate a possible alien abductee.
Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, and William B. Davis will reprise his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man” with appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), Lauren Ambrose (Dig, Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords), and Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley). Chris Carter has written and directed three of the episodes, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.
The X-Files debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC Championship Game, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox.
