Netflix is constantly updating its content and it can be difficult to keep up with what’s new and what’s disappearing from the popular streaming service. Last month we started a “New on Netflix Canada” series, and hopefully here at MOARGeek we’ll be able to start keeping you up to date on what’s new in our “New On Netflix US” monthly series. If you’re in Canada, check out what’s new on Netflix for Canada this month.

Netflix Originals

October will bring an all-new season of the Emmy nominated horror-thriller Hemlock Grove. Based on the novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy, the series’ upcoming third season will be the final chapter in the chronicles of the strange Pennsylvania town. You can catch up on the first two seasons streaming now on Netflix before season three of Hemlock Grove becomes available on October 23.

Two original films that will be hitting the airwaves aim to exhibit the struggle endured by some people overseas. Winter On Fire, a documentary on how peaceful protest became a full-fledged civil rights revolution in the Ukraine, begins airing October 9. Beasts of No Nation, a war drama starring Idris Elba on how West African turmoil tears a family apart and forces a young boy to become a mercenary, is available to stream October 16.

It’s not all gloom and doom, as two original stand-up comedy specials will be available this month. Anjelah Johnson: Not Fancy premieres on October 2, and Anthony Jeselnik: Thoughts and Prayers premieres October 16.

Netflix Original Series for Kids

This month has plenty of original content to fill up the young ones’ queues, as there are four children’s shows set to debut. This list includes the DreamWorks produced The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, which follows the 2014 animated film Mr. Peabody & Sherman. The series is set to air on October 9 and will be based on the animated shorts featuring the characters that aired in the 1960’s as a part of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

Another show debuting its first season on Netflix is Popples, airing on October 30th. Originally created by a subsidiary of the American Greetings card company, Popples will follow the misadventures of a group of adorable little teddy bear-like creatures. In addition to this, Some Assembly Required and All Hail King Julien will be rolling out their second seasons on October 16.

Exclusively on Netflix

Circle is a horror flick surrounding a group of fifty strangers find themselves locked in a chamber with no recollection of getting there, who learn that they must choose the one person worthy of surviving. The Saw-esque film brings the violence to the streams on October 16.

The Duplass Brothers bring an off-kilter comedic-thriller with Manson Family Vacation, which surrounds a conventional family man meeting up with his unconventional brother to tour the Charles Manson murder sites. This film is will begin airing on October 27.
