20th Century Fox has added a little more star power to its roster for the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation after casting critically acclaimed actors Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. The film will be directed by Justin Kurzel and stars Michael Fassbender as the titular characters Callum Lynch and Aguilar, and Marion Cotillard.

The Ubisoft video game franchise that began in 2007 has spawn nine games in its main series, with the latest set to be released on Oct. 23, with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. This doesn’t even include multiple mobile and side games that exist in the same universe. With over 91 million copies sold worldwide, Assassin’s Creed stands as one of the most popular franchises in video game history.

The film will follow Fassbender’s character Callum Lynch as he uncovers his familial lineage as part of a secret Assassin society that relive adventure through the eyes of his 15th century descendant Aguilar, also played by Fassbender. He uses his new found ability to acquire skills and knowledge for his use in the present day.

The Assassin’s Creed film does not yet have an official title, but has a potential working title of Time Out of Mind, according to What Culture.

Irons, who has won an Academy Award for his role in Reversal of Fortune, will appear as the father to Cotillard’s character. Irons already has a full slate of feature films coming up, including a role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as the iconic Wayne family butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Gleeson, whose portrayal as former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the HBO film Into The Storm earned him an Primetime Emmy, will play the father of Fassbender’s character Lynch. Gleeson will star in another political film in the upcoming year, as Otto Hampel in the European war drama Alone In Berlin.
