Coming off the BlackBerry Priv, the company’s first Android device, we’re now getting a look at the BlackBerry Vienna. While some have questioned whether or not the Priv will be a success for the company, it looks like that doesn’t matter as it’s moving forward with the Vienna. Thanks to the renders, we’re seeing what BlackBerry’s second Android device looks like.
Like the Priv, the device is packing Google’s OS and like the Priv it features a physical keyboard. Unlike the Priv though, the device doesn’t feature a slide out keyboard, but rather, a more familiar BlackBerry design. That design features a candy bar style device with a front-facing physical keyboard. Based on the renders, it appears to be a similar size and design to that of the Priv in every other nature.
It’s too soon to tell, but BlackBerry appears to be making a stand with Android at the forefront of its new devices. It may work for a niche market who misses the enterprise solution BlackBerry once offered coupled with the physical keyboard absent in smartphones today. Of course, we may not see the Vienna for a while, and the Priv itself is awfully new. These renders could also be outdated and the design could have changed since the renders were made.
With all that in mind, BlackBerry has a game plan for its new devices. Though we have yet to see if one of those devices will come sans physical keyboard, it’ll be interesting to see if BlackBerry can turn down its previous misfortunes with these new Android packing smartphones. Only time will tell.
