[CES 2016] EMTEC Unveils GEM Box For Gaming, Entertainment, & Multimedia At CES

EMTEC has officially unveiled their GEM (Gaming * Entertainment * Multimedia) Box at CES. The $99 GEM Box microconsole, which includes a Bluetooth gamepad, allows users to instantly stream AAA and casual video games, movies, TV, music, and apps with more coming later in 2016. An all-in-one home entertainment solution with minimal setup hassle, it’s ideal for families, letting everyone enjoy some of the best of modern games without the high cost of a console.

“Streaming TV, movies and music is already second nature, and we’re now ushering in the game streaming revolution,” said Nathalie Lamri, Marketing Director at EMTEC. “With modern hardware backed by a robust network, EMTEC GEM Box will offer a premium cloud gaming experience, delivering huge franchises and top titles directly to a player’s screen in full HD.”

The EMTEC GEM Box easily connect to the new GameFly Streaming service and Google Play, while also allowing for PC streaming making it a true gaming hub with access to hundreds of console-quality video games. The Android-based microconsole supports up to four controllers, and an option gyroscopic remote control will also be available. The user interface has been built from the ground up for streamlined control.

In addition to gaming, the EMTEC GEM Box gives users access to the Google Play store, and all its apps including Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and Spotify, with apps like Twitch and YouTube pre-installed. Movies, music, and TV shows can be rented or downloaded from the Google Play store, or users can access their own multimedia libraries through a USB connection or microSD port.
