Android 6.0, the latest version of Android has already hit some HTC, LG, Motorola, and Samsung devices while Sony has been left behind. By no means is this bashing Sony, but the company being behind on Android updates is nothing new. However, Sony was supposed to push out Android 6.0 to their Z series devices this month, but fell short as only the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact received a beta version.
Good news to Sony handset owners who are wondering if they’ll ever receive all the marshmallowy goodness that comes with Android 6.0, you’ll be seeing the update some time in the middle of February. WiFi Alliance has already received certification for the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z5 phones to be updated. The Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium will be first to receive the update. Also receiving the update next month will be the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact devices as Sony has already issued a beta phase to over 10,000 users across the globe. The Xperia Z2 and Z3+ will also see this update.
Sony devices that are not part of the Z series, such as the Xperia C4, M5, and M4 Aqua are eligible to see this update too, but no word as to when it’ll be pushed out. Xperia Tablet owners for the Z2 (2014), Z3 Compact (2014), and those who are still rocking the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition from 2013 after all this time will also be seeing Android 6.0
Those who have any of the aforementioned devices will receive Android 6.0, but right now it’s just a matter of waiting and hoping Sony pushes the update out on time.
