Is there a movie coming out that Robert Downey Jr. won’t be in? Gosh I hope not. Nevermind that the man is Marvel’s superstar, superhero, and the one and only Tony Stark who will grace at least four more films with Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecomingas well as Avengers Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. He is also squeezing in some time to do a third installment of the Sherlock Holmes series. In an exclusive interview with Shortlist, RDJ confirms he’s been talking to Guy Ritchie about the third film and when the process will start.

We can do some preliminary stuff [now]. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have it done in a week. I know Guy Ritchie loves me as much as I love him – and he damn well should. When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m excited about it.

The last time we saw RDJ take on the titular role of Sherlock Holmes was in 2011, in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Jude Law as his trusty sidekick, John Watson. In an interview with IGN in August of 2015, producer Lionel Wigram confirmed that a script was being worked on and that both Law and RDJ would reprise their roles as the dynamic, super sleuthing duo.

We’re working on a Sherlock Holmes 3 script. I think we would all love to do one if we could come up with something that really was really going to knock it out of the park and was going to be the best of the three. So we’re working on that – it’s quite hard to do.

No further information as to the nature of the script or any other appearances by people like Rachel McAdams who plays Irene Adler, Sherlock Holmes complicated, on-again-off-again love interest. While we wait for details to unfold, check out this fan-made trailer.
