A Reddit user posted some screenshots and a video link marked NSFW claiming that their new OnePlus 3 came loaded with adult content. Judging from the screenshots provided the “offensive” material looks to be tame though we did not click on the video link to find out what the video contained. The fact that there may have been files on the user’s brand new device isn’t unusual, there have been stories across the internet where users have gotten new devices only to find other user’s files on them. We ourselves have gotten review units that were seemingly factory reset that still contained images from previous reviewers.
The odd thing here is the subject of the files, what this user describes as adult content. While some may not take offense to what this particular user describes as adult content, it does beg the question: How did those files get there in the first place? We do know that at the time of manufacture devices are quality tested, devices are booted up, screens are calibrated and checked, speakers are tested, Wi-Fi checked, Bluetooth checked, all the normal functions are thoroughly put through their paces. So perhaps one adventurous worker decided to do some more in-depth testing of one of those devices, we don’t know.
However these files made their way onto a brand new device is a mystery but it does happen from time to time. So don’t be too surprised the next time you unwrap your new toy to find a few dozen pictures of someones holiday, birthday party or even possibly… adult content. We’ve reached out to OnePlus for comment on this story.
