Google Gives Prisoners A Special Father’s Day

Father’s Day is something special for millions of dads across the world. It’s a time for not only families to spoil their dads but it’s a great time for dad’s to serve their families. So far I’ve spent my Father’s Day weekend putting together a large wooden playground for my kids, taking my adult child to the movies, and grilling the evening meal. But not all families have the luxury of having their fathers at home. Some families live with the reality of their fathers living in prison.

Whatever reason these men are incarcerated, they have families that love them and kids who miss them. Google’s philanthropic arm is making things a bit easier for some of these families by delivering Father’s Day video messages to them.

“Love Letters” is a national campaign, supported by Google, to uplift the voices of young people who have an incarcerated parent. On Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, we are asking many of the 2.7 million children in the United States who have at least one parent incarcerated to share letters they have written to their mother and father. During this time, let’s remember our parents behind bars and the devastating human cost of mass incarceration. Please join us in supporting organizations that keep parents connected to their children.

Regardless of whatever crimes these men are accused of, they have children who love  and miss them. Watching this video tears at your heartstrings to see these kids go through life without their fathers. It’s great to see a program like “Love Letters,” these fathers and kids deserve a little something special. Hug your kids this Father’s Day and know that some kids aren’t getting that option.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our readers, we hope you enjoy the day with your families and thanks for reading!
