Moto Gamepad Moto Mod pre-orders available — exclusively on Verizon

While the Moto Z Force Edition was exclusive to Verizon last year, the follow-up device — the Moto Z2 Force Edition — will be available at all major U.S. carriers. Moto Mods, on the other hand, will be hit and miss as to what carriers will carry which ones and it’s looking like the Moto Gamepad Moto Mod will be a Verizon exclusive.

The Moto Gamepad Moto Mod was previously announced and easily adds gamepad modularity to existing Moto Z and Moto Z2 smartphones. The mod features a cutout area for your Moto Z family smartphone to snap into and has dual thumbstick controls, a d-pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, dedicated home, select, and start buttons, and at least a couple of bumper buttons. While there are plenty of Bluetooth smartphone game controllers on the market, one potential issue is lag due to being connected wirelessly. The Moto Gamepad Moto Mod alleviates this due to the Moto Mod connectors through which information is passed.

The Gamepad Moto Mod also features a 1035 mAh battery so it’s not sucking all your Moto Z or Moto Z2 battery life while being used. Mostly black in design, the Moto Mod also has Lenovo’s trademark red accents, including the Y-gaming icon and brushed design on the back of the mod.

The Moto mod can be pre-ordered for $79.99 USD and has a ship date of August 25.
