Netflix drops teaser for Cloverfield sequel; watch the full movie TONIGHT after the Super Bowl

Who saw this one coming? During tonight’s Super Bowl LII broadcast, Netflix dropped the trailer for a Cloverfield sequel. Even better? The Cloverfield Paradox will be available exclusively in its entirety on the streaming service TONIGHT after the Super Bowl.

Check out the teaser below:

From the looks and sounds of it, The Cloverfield Paradox ties the two previous movies together. Produced by J.J. Abrams, the movie is directed by Julius Onah and stars Daniel Brühl, Roger Davies, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi.

In case you’re still a little confused about what it’s about, Netflix provided this synopsis:

In the near future, a group of international astronauts on a space station are working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth. The experimental technology aboard the station has an unexpected result, leaving the team isolated and fighting for their survival.

The teaser drop is reminiscent of the unexpected release of the 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer. While hints of another Cloverfield sequel were starting to swirl and linked to an in-development project called God Particle, I’m certain not many expected to not only see a teaser but be able to watch the movie tonight. Expected or not, this is a pretty big deal for the industry where a trailer and the movie for a fairly big title is released on a streaming service the same day.

Are you excited about the Cloverfield sequel? Will you be staying up later after Super Bowl LII to watch it? If so, you can check it out over on Netflix! Let us know in the comments below or on Google+, Twitter, or Facebook.
