The Porsche Mission E should get Tesla thinking about a new Model S design

First off, by writing this article, I am in no way intending to besmirch or make fun of Tesla. I still happen to think the Tesla Model S P100D is an amazing looking vehicle. It’s just… well… just feast your eyes on the Porsche Misson E concept car design and decide for yourself!

Porsche Mission E
Drool-worthy design!

But Alex! This is just a concept not a production car like the Tesla Model S P100D! Yes, I know. But because Tesla has been pushing the boundaries of electric car production, other companies are gearing up and we could very well see this concept become reality.

But Alex! The Tesla is still FASTER than the Porsche Misson E. Porsche’s projected 0-60mph time is 3.5 seconds while the Tesla Model S P100D can achieve 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds! Yes, it can and frankly, that’s awesome! But really, how often do we really mash on the accelerator to get to 60mph in 2.3 seconds or even 3.5 seconds when driving around town?

I am willing to bet there are a lot more people out there than we think who would take form over speed. I’m also willing to bet that if the Mission E was a current production car, Tesla would seriously be thinking about updating their vehicle’s design.

Porsche Mission E
Simply stunning!

Fine! So what about the new Tesla Roadster? You yourself even said: “Holy stunner Batman!” — plus, the Roadster goes from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds! Yes! The freaking Tesla Roadster is pure awesome sauce! But it’s a roadster, not a four-seater.

The Porsche Mission E design competes more with the Tesla Model S and that’s why I’m only giving my opinion that this should get Tesla thinking about a redesign of their four-door sedan. Frankly, if both of these cars were in front of me, were both proven reliable in every way, and I could afford only one of them, well, I’d pick the Porsche Mission E in a heartbeat, based solely on design. I’m sure there would be those who favor speed and would pick the Tesla but speed isn’t everything and if the Mission E was on the same lot you can bet it would give Tesla some competition.

I’m super excited about this Porsche concept and I hope the company can see it through. First, because I think it will push Tesla to make their cars even better than they are now. And second, because competition in the marketplace is good for everyone! Read more about the Porsche Mission E at the link below.

What do you think? If both of these cars were side by side and proven, would you pick speed over design? Or design over speed? Do you think the Tesla Model S P100D or Porsche Mission E concept looks better? Let us know in the comments below, or on Google+Twitter, or Facebook.
