,

Welcome to our first annual Techaeris Editor’s Choice Awards. Over the past few years, we’ve awarded many devices and gadgets a Top Pick Award but we felt there were some devices that deserved special recognition. The Techaeris Editor’s Choice Award is aimed at showcasing what we think are the best tech devices and gadgets we’ve reviewed in each quarter.

As we are wrapping up Q1 for the year what follows below is what we think stands out thus far. We want to congratulate the brands below for making the cut and for making outstanding products that we can recommend. Without further ado. Here are the winners of our 2018 Q1 Editor’s Choice Awards!

Editor’s Choice Business Laptop: Lenovo X1 Carbon

Lenovo X1 Carbon EC
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon sent to us is rocking the Intel Core i7-8550U, Intel UHD Graphics 620, and 8GB of RAM.

With its tough build quality, industrial yet sexy design, versatile I/O options, and lightweight portability, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen is an ideal business ultrabook for those always on the run. This is why it not only earned a Best of CES award from us but also wins a Top Pick Award for 2018.

Editor’s Choice Consumer Laptop: Samsung Notebook 9 EXT

Samsung Notebook 9 EC
The Samsung Notebook 9 EXT 15″ is rocking an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 with Intel HD integrated graphics and NVIDIA GeForce MX150 discrete graphics.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Samsung Notebook 9 EXT 15″. This was the first Samsung laptop I’ve used and it was comfortable. The keyboard was nice to type on, though with a bit more throw than I normally like. The trackpad was nice and silky. The display is super bright, with rich color, deep blacks, and crisp whites. The machine is light, well made and good looking. There’s a lot to like about the Notebook 9.

Editor’s Choice Hybrid Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 920 4K

Lenovo Yoga 920 4K EC
Our review unit is rocking the Intel Core i7-8550U, Intel UHD Graphics 620, and 16GB of RAM. This configuration is a screamer for such a small and light ultrabook. Everyday tasks are a breeze including, browsing, light gaming, email, word processing, multi-tasking, and more.

If you have the cash, you really can’t go wrong with this laptop. Maxxing it out is the way to go. It’s a stunner in terms of looks even meeting and exceeding a MacBook Pro in that department. It’s powerful and capable and given the right configuration, can handle just about anything you throw at it.

Editor’s Choice Portable Bluetooth Speaker: JBL Boombox

JBL Boombox EC
The JBL Boombox is simply rich and balanced with deep, big bass that doesn’t overpower the mids and highs.

The JBL Boombox definitely puts the boom back in boombox with its big sound and easily earns a Top Pick of 2018 Award here at Techaeris. Sure, it’s large — and a bit on the pricey side — but if you’re after loud, bass-booming, all-day and night party sound, the JBL Boombox easily fits the bill!

Editor’s Choice Headphones: Monolith M1060

Monolith EC
The Monoprice Monolith M1060 Over-Ear Planar Magnetic Headphones have an interesting, but rather classy and stylish floating headband design.

The well constructed and nicely designed Monoprice Monolith M1060 Planar headphones definitely offer a fantastic and detailed soundstage with balanced sound at a more than reasonable price. Even though the open back design means others in the vicinity can hear what you are listening to, the immersive sound really makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the music. Any audiophile would be remiss not to give these a go and that’s why they’ve earned a Top Pick of 2018 award here at Techaeris.

Editor’s Choice Outdoor Tech: EGO POWER+ Snow Blower

EGO EC
You can order the EGO POWER+ with either one or two batteries. I suggest you get the two batteries as it will provide more power and a longer run time. Once you have the batteries charged and the chute in place, you’re basically ready to go.

If you’re looking to ditch gas power in favor of electric, EGO is the way to go. Both their mower and this snow blower are high-quality and they perform just as well if not better than their gas counterparts. I have no issue recommending EGO products at this point, they are phenomenal and I’m looking forward to replacing more of my gas powered yard tools with EGO products.

Editor’s Choice Smartwatch: Samsung Gear Sport

Samsung Gear Sport EC
Perhaps the coolest feature of the Gear Sport, at least in my opinion, is the fact that the bezel rotates and acts as a navigation wheel.

The Samsung Gear Sport may be marketed as a fitness smartwatch but has all the features of a regular smartwatch as well. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a well-rounded smartwatch solution with plenty of apps and multi-day battery life. As such, we’ve also chosen to award it a posthumous Top Pick of 2017 Award here at Techaeris as it was not only released last year but also because we didn’t get the review up in December as anticipated.

Editor’s Choice Budget Smartphone: Honor 7X

Honor 7x EC
The Honor 7X is one of the nicest looking budget smartphones on the market right now. To be honest, if you lay it next to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro with the screens turned off, at first glance, they look very similar.

Budget phones aren’t all created equal. All budget phones are going to come with some compromises, and the Honor 7X has its fair share. But I do think this is one of the best budget phones on the market right now, and it has more plusses than it does minuses in the overall big picture. I think budget-minded buyers would be served well with this device. The snobbier smartphone buyers need not apply.
